Anxiety: Step out of Your Way and Into Your Light

image001One of my dearest friends is in pain…serious, deep, heart wrenching, agonizing, forever life altering pain, after losing her 14 year old son/soulmate in July in a freak jet-ski accident. She has good days and bad, but most recently, her days have been riddled with rather serious bouts of anxiety & panic attacks…the kind that disrupt your life, render you unable to function normally, and generally scare the shit out of you. She hasn’t so much as said this to me, but I wouldn’t be surprised if she’s having thoughts like…”Am I losing it? Will I be able to come back from this? Am I going to get through this? Is this my new normal?”

I started praying and meditating for guidance…for God to show me how I may support her and help her find some semblance of peace. This is what came forward for me…my hope is that it helps her and others who have suffered just as she is suffering now.

Revelation…

Anxiety is a parking lot between Fear and Pain. When we veer off the road to avoid pulling into Pain or Fear, especially when our body is telling us WE NEED TO GO THERE TO HEAL, we end up stuck in the Anxiety parking lot. Here is where we will remain until we are ready to pull into, camp out in, and walk through Fear and/or Pain – fully, bravely and courageously. This is the most difficult and most loving thing we can do for ourselves at any given moment.

Let it flow…

So how do we do this? First we have to wrap our precious, complex brains around this – “being tough”, “keeping it together”, and “showing no pain” is TOTAL BULLSHIT. Showing our emotions, feeling our pain and expressing it outwardly is what makes us women…it is what enables us to be crazy successful boss ladies, it’s what makes us the matriarchs, glue and foundation of our families, teachers, learners and amazing multi-taskers BEYOND. Step up and into your womanly inner Goddess and allow yourself to feel and express that who is authentically YOU – this is what makes you more beautiful than anything else about you.

Love yourself like crazy!

Once you’ve decided to let go of all of that and you think you might be ready to pull into Pain or Fear, you might turn to meditation, therapy, coaching, a healer, classes, journaling, it goes on and on and we all resonate with different mediums…but they all start with showing yourself compassion, love and acceptance for where you are NOW. Becoming frustrated, angry and generally irritated with yourself only leads to more frustration and anxiety. If you nurture yourself and show yourself love and kindness, you will find the strength to pull into Fear and Pain and slowly, thoughtfully and purposefully find your way to Peace and Freedom.

Ladies…please be kind to yourselves, kinder than you are to anyone else. It has been my experience that we are harder on ourselves than anyone else, expect more from ourselves than anyone else, and doubt ourselves more than anyone else, yet we are more awesome, amazing, beautiful, complex and capable than any other gender or species on the planet.

Step out of your way and into your light…
